Virtual Karate Classes are a FUN, SAFE and EXCITING way to have your child train in the comfort of your own home. Parent involvement is key to a successful Virtual Karate Class. When the No Limits Martial Arts Instructor is leading the group class, parents play a very important role in the success of their child’s training by supervising, reviewing the content of the class, and training with your child.
Here are three ways you can participate during your child’s Virtual Karate Class:
Help Supervise Your Child’s Training
One GREAT thing about Virtual Karate Classes is that there is no limit to the number of students that can follow along with the No Limits Martial Arts Team. The downside is that the instructor cannot watch each student, all the time.
This is where you, as the parent, come in. During your child’s Group Virtual Karate Class, be engaged in your child’s learning and training. This will not only help your child to stay focused, but also push them to perform the moves to the best of their ability. It will also ensure that if your child is confused about the direction of a pattern, not sure whether the right or left foot should be in front, or if they missed what type of kick they should throw, that you will be there to help guide them through the technique. This is especially important for any of our younger students.
Observe the Content Being Taught, and Review
Here is the good news about Virtual Karate Classes. You do not need a Black Belt to help correct some moves. As a parent, it is very important to observe your child’s class, make a note about the content being taught during that class, and take five minutes to review the content. This will not only show your child that you are engaged in their learning, but also willing to assist, and help them reach their Martial Arts Goals.
Simple drills such as basic punches, stances, or sparring drills are a great way to keep the Karate Training happening on a regular basis. Out of all of the Karate Curriculum, sparring drills are a great way to train with your child, help them get better with their technique and enjoy the learning experience.
Train WITH Your Child
Students at the No Limits Martial Arts Milton & Oakville dojo’s have had the opportunity to train online for a few weeks. Now that the routine has been developed, take the opportunity to train WITH your child.
On a day that your child does not have class, take 20 minutes to do a small warm up, and work on basic techniques or sparring drills. No only will the experience help your child continue to develop their martial arts skills, it is a great opportunity to have FUN and ENGAGE with your child. Below is a great sample class, that should only take 20 minutes to complete:
Warm Up (5 Minutes): Jumping Jacks, Burpees, Squats and Running on the Spot, followed by light stretching
Review (5 Minutes): Review basic stances such as Horse Stance, Forward Stance, as well as basic hand techniques (punches, palm blocks and kicks)
Sparring Drills (10 Minutes): Get up and moving by reviewing a few sparring drills:
- Hand Combos (Backfist, Reverse Punch, Backfist)
- Rabbit Kicks (Multiple Sidekicks thrown without the foot touching the floor)
- Defensive Reverse Punch (Start bouncing, shuffle back and throw a Reverse Punch)
Engaging in your child’s learning is a great way to ensure the success of any Group Virtual Karate Class. Even though Virtual Karate Classes offer a SAFE, FUN and EXCITING learning experience at home, your involvement as the parent will help ensure your child is making the most of every class.
